If we ponder the creation of the heavens and the earth in Genesis – the universe consists of the earth, separated from God by an expanse called the heavens Gen 1: 6 – 8, the lights were added for signs and for days and years, and to give light on the earth, the greater to govern the day and the lesser to govern the night, and the stars v14 – 18. We can each attest to the fact that describes the reality we live in.
Yet our reality has changed to include things postulated by Physicists, as we see in Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
Universe means “the whole body of things and phenomena observed or postulated”, such as: a) A systematic whole held to arise by and persist through the direct intervention of divine power, b) the world of human experience, c) the entire celestial cosmos, milky way galaxy, and aggregate of stars comparable to the Milky Way galaxy.
Cosmos often means ‘universe’, but suggests an orderly or harmonious universe, as it was originally used by Pythagoras in the 6th century B. C. Thus, a religious mystic may help put us in touch with the cosmos, and so may a physicist.”
If we were to use critical thinking, and separate our knowledge of the universe into two groups – what we can observe and what is postulated, we see that the cosmos, planetary, and galactic systems, are ‘postulated’ by Physicists based on their mystical experiences!
In the book Light Bearers of Darkness by Christina Stoddard p. 69, M Kuentz describes the effects of Rudolf Steiner’s exercises on a pupil. The first exercise – concentrating on a thought, causes the pupil to lose touch with what is practical and real. The second “inculcates a mad routine, indispensable to perfecting his inner derangement.” The third “blunts the power of feeling and suffering, which mechanically extinguishes enthusiasm, horror, and all strong and sane sensation, which blows the mind.” The fourth exercise, ‘positivity’, erodes critical thinking, which is necessary for occult development. Only when a pupil abandons critical thinking can they proceed to the fifth exercise, where they no longer reject anything presented to their mind. Upon completion of these exercises, the student becomes an initiate, in a state of hypnosis that assures their compliance.
Stoddard on p. 75 quotes from the quarterly Anthroposophy “Eurhythmy has grown out of the essence of Anthroposophical Spiritual Science, and is based on an understanding that the true nature of man and his relation to the Earth, as well as to the Planetary and Zodiacal Mysteries of the Cosmos.” She quotes the Steiner’s followers “The etheric body derives itself inner mobility from Planetary and Zodiacal (starry worlds!), hence from Cosmic forces . . . “, and warns “This is fixation of the astral light in a material body; it is the illumination or illuminism as depicted in the drawing ‘Anthropos,’ – as above so below – “, that awakens the Kundalini.
Stoddard on p. 144 warns “This mysterious thing is the universal magical agent, the all-pervading ether, ‘which enters into all magical operations of nature, and produces mesmeric, magnetic, and spiritualistic phenomena.’” Have we unknowingly allowed our reality to become infected with this mystical ether, by meditating on things that are postulated, not proven? Have we been mesmerized by the image of the globe earth and its place in the planetary system because it was presented to us as children as a fundamental part of our reality that cannot be questioned without ridicule? Is this why we see the globe earth on a regular basis in our news and entertainment?
